Western Front’s archives began with the visionary efforts of Kate Craig and other founders who embraced new technologies to document performance and create media art. Since 1973, the collection has grown to encompass nearly all of Western Front’s contemporary art initiatives.
Our archives include around 2,000 video tapes and 500 audio recordings on magnetic media, 30 meters of textual and graphic material, and legacy technical equipment, performance props, and artworks.
In addition to institutional records, the collection features the Kate Craig fonds, Hank Bull fonds, and the Knights of the Pythias collection.
Browse our archives below. Please note that our online database currently reflects only a portion of our collection as we transition from a legacy system. For further research inquiries, feel free to contact us. Appointments to visit the archives onsite are available Thursdays and Fridays.
Use of archival materials beyond private research and study requires permission. Fees may apply for exhibition, reproduction, or other usage requests, whether online, digital, or print.
If you appear in an online record and wish to have it removed, you have the right to request its removal. We may ask for additional information to better understand and process your request.
