Description:

Jayce Salloum’s ongoing series "...In the absence of heroes..." investigates the way in which our personal lives and political and social conceptions are manipulated by the media and state propagated images.

As part of the project, Salloum presented a performance and installation titled Part IV: Warfare/A Case for Context in the Grand Luxe Hall, posing the question: where are personal/emotional concerns placed in relation to the shaping of our perception? The work layered fragmented imagery drawn from TV broadcasts, archival materials, videos, and slides depicting traumatic experiences and conflict on a global scale. The visual material was complemented with audio tracks of edited television audio, and other original sound.

Western Front is a non-profit artist-run centre in Vancouver.
