Grand Luxe Hall, Western Front

Time:

Description:

This was an evening of experimental music and instant composition in the Grand Luxe Hall featuring Exhausted Monologues, Froghat, and HMBKR.

Exhausted Monologues, the solo project of bassist/vocalist Andrea Lukic, opened the evening with a set of looped frequencies, tones, and sampled dialogue organized in response to various cognitive behavioral therapy methodologies.

This was followed by a performance by Froghat—an audio-visual collaboration of abstract animation by Gerland Hogrefe with harsh, atmospheric, ambient, and dense frequencies by Soma Morse.

The evening concluded with a debut performance by HMBKR—a laptop supergroup composed of Ross Birdwise (Ejaculation Death Rattle), Samuel Macklin (Connect_icut), Constantine Katsiris (Scant Intone), and Emma Hendrix (Coin Gutter). The improvising ensemble incorporated real-time digital signal processing, primal vocals, and unconventional tuning systems into their set, which was accompanied by visuals courtesy of Julie Gendron.

Fake Jazz Friday was an eponymous spinoff concert series produced by Fake Jazz, composed of Jeremy Van Wyck, Bill Batt, and Anju Singh. It was a showcase of experimental and noise music in partnership with Western Front as the venue.
