Description:

Adults Are So Last Year was an event that invited kids of all ages to collaborate with artists and musicians in a series of activities, games, and projects exploring media art, music, and visual art.

Colleen Brown and Dawn Cerny used supplies and tools sourced from Western Front to carry out an iteration of their collaborative project Form Play. Participants were invited to explore the building while playing with a collection of materials.

Cindy Mochizuki led a stop-motion workshop where participants used everyday objects to create small films that responded to questions and concerns around the “future.”

Alanna Ho’s workshops focused on creating stories with sound effects, offered an introduction to circuit making, and explored sound using the hydrophone.

Participants were also invited to play with an assortment of instruments made by Gamelan Bike Bike from recycled bike parts.

Presented with the support of G&F Financial Group, Buy Low Foods, D-Original Sausage, Earnest Ice Cream.

The entrance into the Luxe vestibule is decorated with balloons, colorful posters and a plastic cactus, with an inquiry sign out front. Two people stroll into the vestibule, and a computer on a desk between them sits. The second-floor foyer has the word movies with an exclamation point and a smiling face written on its floor with green tape.
In the Grand Luxe Hall, a projection screen on a stand is set up in front of a grey couch with a vibrant tapestry on it. Toddlers sit and watch the screen as an artist stands next to it.
Four toddlers craft at a low-standing desk. In front of them is a black background, and desk lamps brighten the table.
An adult and a toddler sit on the sidewalk in front of Western Front, facing each other. They both play with a gear composition that sits on a red plank between them.
A toddler plays with an xylophone made of recycled parts, sitting on the sidewalk outside of Western Front. Other children play behind them, and they smile at someone out of frame.
Children play with xylophones and drums made of recycled materials, on the sidewalk in front of Western Front. Adults play with and watch the children enjoy the instruments.
