Description:

Still Life: A Moving Portrait is a single-channel video by Kate Craig that documents her living space at Western Front. Over the course of thirty minutes, the camera traces Craig’s knick-knacks, houseplants, furniture, and artworks, revealing  both the mental and the physical spaces inhabited by the artist. Still Life: A Moving Portrait was produced as an experiment to test the Canada Council’s Sony 1600 colour camera, which was sent to artist-run centres across the country to give artists the experience of working in colour. The video was dedicated to Mary Ashley, who gifted Craig the mbira used by Hank Bull to create the work’s score.

Video documentation is available upon request.

Western Front is a non-profit
artist-run centre in Vancouver.
