Nobuo Kubota in Residence

Description:
Western Front hosted Toronto-based musician, artist, and performer Nobuo Kubota for a residency in which he developed a single-channel video work focused on the vocal improvisation and extended technique—specifically, vocal sounds in the context of timbral syntax as opposed to semantic syntax. In the video, the abstract qualities of Kubota’s voice are amplified by the visual expressions of his facial and body mime.
