Description:

Western Front published Two Places at Once; Transfigured Wood Part 4, the final installment of a photography series by Marian Penner Bancroft. Following a three-part photographic installation, this concluding work takes the form of a book composed of twelve foldouts accompanied by text. In it, Bancroft conventional understandings of landscape photography—disrupting its association with beauty and formal composition. Instead, she proposes the landscape as an active agent in shaping imagination and history, while questioning our ability to represent the full complexity of our geographic experience. The images are split in two, and the text mirrors this fragmentation, resisting a linear reading of either image or word.

The cover of Two Places at Once is a hand-stamped box-sleeve made of common pulpboard, which holds the collection of photos that fold out to a spread of 30 x 8”.
