Description:

Front; Machine for Bad Weather was an architectural installation by Alan Storey, featuring a water wheel mounted on the west façade of Western Front facing Scotia Street and a wind gauge on the roof, both activated by wind and rain. Originally intended as a temporary piece, the installation remained in place for nearly twenty years.

An opening reception took place on October 26, 1985.

Seen in black and white in a wide shot, a large water wheel covers a window on Western Front’s left facade. The wheel includes three rectangles, touching at their edges, creating a triangle at its centre. A large wind spinner stands on the roof’s left corner, and two large speakers stand in a row on the roof’s left edge.
