The Title Role

Description:

Produced during a residency at Western Front, The Title Role is a single-channel video by Anne Seagrave that reimagines a speculative episode of the American television series Perry Mason. The work features twelve performers as a jury, each wearing a paper bag mask printed with xeroxed faces of characters from the show. Dialogue from Perry Mason was spliced and manipulated, transforming the masked figures into uncanny talking heads to produce new narrative scenarios.

Alongside Seagrave, the performers included. Mike Barrett, Hank Bull, Diana Burgoyne, Andrew Dewberry, Vanessa Lowe, Oscar McLennan, Eric Metcalfe, Judy Radul, Tuula Schroderus, Jayne Seagrave, and Zainub Verjee.
