Description:

Western Front, Centre A, and Fillip presented a screening of Paul Chan’s Tin Drum Trilogy (2002–05), and the release of a commissioned poster, Untitled (Behold, I show you a mystery) (2008). The screening and poster launch was followed by a discussion and reception.

Tin Drum Trilogy is a three-part experimental critique of twenty-first century American politics and the occupation of Iraq. With a total runtime of one hour and fifty minutes, the three videos of the trilogy are: RE:THE_OPERATION (2002), BAGHDAD IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER (2003), and NOW PROMISE NOW THREAT (2005).

Commissioned by the three presenting organizations, Chan’s poster project Untitled (Behold, I show you a mystery) was published as an insert in the issue of Fillip 7. The poster relates to Chan’s series of works, The 7 Lights (2005–07) and follows other print projects by the artist, notably Baghdad Snapshot Action (February 2002 and April 2003).
