Pop Song Covers (Music & Landscape)

Exhibition

Description:

This group exhibition featured four artists who used aspects of popular music in their work in relation to landscape and social space.

Attached to many genres, or subgenres, of pop music, is a reference to the locations the music is played and/or created: the disco, beach, club, lounge, car, garage, street corner, elevator, and so forth. Additionally, while production of a music genre may become dispersed and globalized, a semiotic connection to the specific geographic location in which it was developed or popularized remains.

An exhibition opening took place on Sep 7, 2001.

This exhibition was part of the Popular Format series.
