Concert by Amy Horvey, Tetuzi Akiyama and Jeffrey Allport

Jul 1, 2006
Field:

Concert, Performance

Location:

Grand Luxe Hall, Western Front

Time:

8:00 p.m.

Description:

This concert was a double bill of Amy Horvey (trumpet), and Tetuzi Akiyama (guitar) with Jeffrey Allport (percussion).

Horvey performed a series of short works, using her intimate style to eschew the traditional machismo of the trumpet, and explore its subtle sonic architecture.

Akiyama’s experimental guitar music bridged country blues and free improvisation, with acoustic and electric guitar, prepared resonator guitar with a katana, and a turntable without records. Allport provided exploratory percussion improvisations.

Presented in conjunction with TD Canada Trust Vancouver International Jazz Festival.

artist-run centre in Vancouver.
