Talk

Location:

Grand Luxe Hall, Western Front

Time:

6:30 p.m.

Description:

Western Front hosted an evening with San Francisco Museum of Modern Art curator of media arts and video art preservation expert Rudolf Frieling. Over the course of two years, Frieling worked towards the preservation, digitization, and dissemination of important works of German video art, resulting in five exhibitions at museums across Germany, a publication titled Digital Heritage: Video Art in Germany from 1963 – Present (2006), and an online resource. Frieling presented on this large-scale project and contextualized examples of recently restored video work within early artistic explorations of the recorded image.

Following his forty-five-minute talk, Frieling was joined by Western Front executive director Caitlin Jones for a conversation. The evening closed with a question and answer period.

Video documentation of this event is available upon request.
