As part of the du Maurier International Jazz Festival, Ukrainian avant-garde multi-instrumentalists Oleksandr Nesterov and Petro Tovstukha performed a concert in the Grand Luxe Hall. Nesterov moved between guitar, bass, bassoon, piano, and percussion, while Tovstukha performed on piano, organ, trombone, and percussion. Together, the duo improvised and presented original compositions inspired by contemporary visual art and film, all while echoing the turbulent political atmosphere of the USSR.
In advance of the festival, Western Front hosted Nesterov and Tovstukha for a residency.
Presented in partnership with Coastal Jazz, the Ukrainian Cultural Fund in Kiev, and Westcan Jazz.
