Occupation: Circus Maximus

Feb 24, 2007
Field:

Concert, Performance

Location:

Grand Luxe Hall, Western Front

Time:

8:00 p.m.

Description:

This was the second performance of the Occupation concert series.

Circus Maximus was a spectacle to be experienced, absorbed, and internalized. A reflection of our highly splintered and volatile society, it was an invitation to rethink the system of values by which we gauge our desires to celebrate or condemn societal violence.

Performers, musicians, and video artists collaborated to produce rich soundscapes and thought-provoking visuals—a three-ring circus, all under the command of an outrageous ringmaster. Audience members were encouraged to attend in circus-themed attire.

Circus Maximus was produced and performed by experimental Music Collective (Lisa Miller, Gordon Fitzell, Scott Amort), Intermission Artists Society (Marianne Bos, Mark Brady, Julie Gendron), Edgeffect (François Houle, Jeremy Berkman, Lisa Miller, Gordon Fitzell, Stefan Smulovitz), performance artist Andrew Laurenson, and set designer Andrew Scott.

Presented in partnership with VIVO Media Arts Centre.

Video documentation is available upon request.
