I Nyoman Wenten

Bio:

I Nyoman Wenten is a performer, musician, dancer, and teacher from Bali, Indonesia. His work centers on traditional Balinese and Javanese dance and music while fusing elements of the avant-garde, and involves collaborations with international musicians, dancers, composers, and choreographers. Wenten first studied with his late grandfather—a master puppeteer, musician, dancer, and teacher—and continued his training at Bali’s Conservatory of Music and Dance and the National Academy of Music and Dance in Yogyakarta. He later pursued further study in the United States at the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) and UCLA. Wenten also served as the artistic director of Gamelan Burat Wangi at CalArts.
